The CSHEMA Academy offers four-hour online courses that allow you to expand your skills and education around a certain topic and showcase a commitment your professional advancement.

Through the academy, you will attend four separate one-hour online learning events during a one- to two-week period. Content experts will lead you through the course, with each section expanding upon the knowledge given previously. It is important that you are able to attend each section of the course.

All four sessions for CSHEMA members is $250.


Industrial Hygiene 101 | October 26–November 4, 2020

This online course is designed to provide an overview of the foundations of industrial hygiene and is recommended for those new to the profession. You will learn about occupational exposure limits, routes of exposure, and applicable regulations, as well as air sampling, respiratory protection, and noise evaluations. You will also receive a brief introduction to indoor air quality.

You must commit to attending all sections to receive a certificate of completion. This program includes the following courses:

SESSION 1: ORIGINS AND RATIONALE OF INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PRACTICE

This session provides an introduction to industrial hygiene and a brief history of industrial hygiene, as well as covers occupational exposure limits. This session also includes time for a brief introduction to the academy, Zoom (online meeting platform), and the private community of practice.


SESSION 2: GASES, VAPORS, AEROSOLS AND THEIR EFFECTS

October 28, 2020 2–3 p.m. Eastern

This session covers particle size and deposition in lungs, general physiology, and states of matter.


SESSION 3: EXPOSURE MONITORING AND PERSONAL PROTECTION

This session will cover personal and area sampling techniques and respiratory protection.


SESSION 4: PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE

This session will provide a brief introduction to indoor air quality and non-industrial environments as well as noise exposure and evaluation techniques.
